November 1912

It was exactly 100 years ago, in November 1912 that major decisions were made by the Presbyterian Church with regard to the establishment of a Presbyterian Ladies’ College.

  • The College would go ahead.
  • It would be called ‘Iona’ after the Island where Saint Columba established his mission.
  • Its crest would be the Celtic or Columban Cross (the cross in a circle).
  • Its motto would be ‘Love, Joy, Peace’ those fruits of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22).

The picture below, taken from the Presbyterian Ladies’  College minute book contains the proposals and decisions made and is dated November 15th 1912
