Learning Enhancement

Iona’s curriculum is balanced to provide support if needed and encouragement when required.

Within the classroom, differentiated programmes ensure that every student is working at an appropriate level.  Assistance to students is provided through appropriate course selection, peer tutoring, and specialist individual or small group help in the form of a learning support teacher.  If further assistance should be required then the school is able to access community and ministry sources.

Subject classes in the junior school are no larger than 24, while the average class size in Years 11-13 is 12.  Classes of these sizes optimize opportunities for student feedback and feedforward which help raise student achievement.

Extension classes are offered in many learning areas at various levels.  This enhances preparation for Scholarship at Year 13.

Supervised prep helps establish good learning structures and routines.
