Floating along the canals of Venice
We are now in Venice. The girls are loving it and have now found their way
around without the need of maps. The weather is fantastic, still mid to high
thirties and we have not had any rain or clouds since we got here. Today we
went on a boat trip to Murano to see a glass-blowing demonstration which the
girls found really interesting. The boat trip itself was lovely too.
Rome and Florence were also fantastic. Rome was a struggle at times with
temperatures up to 41 degrees but we coped! A cultural experience never to be
forgotten was the football final between Italy and Spain, which we watched
with 250,000 others in the Circus Maximus. Italy lost which meant we were able
to sleep that night, but it was a shame for them.
Susanna is savouring every moment and shopping up a storm. She is a great
person to have on the trip, always positive and enthusiastic and helping the
students feel comfortable with what they are doing.
The Italian economy continues to be bolstered by the presence of our group and
I am not sure how they are going to get everything into their suitcases. The
consumption of gelati is quite amazing – they even manage to have another one
straight after dinner each night. They are a great group to travel with and
have proved very resilient and patient. Our three year 13 students have been
Back to Rome on Thursday for one night then starting for home on Friday.
Hope the holidays are going well. See everyone next week.
