On Tuesday 14th February four year 8 girls, Aimee Pitcher, Amy Martin, Kelli Frewin and Holly Moroney headed off to Napier to defend our Regional Police Competency Challenge title. Once again we combined with four Hereworth boys to make two mixed teams to compete in the annual challenge. Due to the miserable summer we are experiencing the event was held indoors at McLean Park this year. The Iona girls had a lot to live up to with one of our Iona/Hereworth teams having won the National PCT competition last year.
The competition was tough and it was very close with only seconds separating the first few teams. Tamatea Intermediate came out on top in Napier and in Hawkes Bay. However, the team comprising Amy Martin, Aimee Pitcher, Humphrey Shield and Tom Mackisack were placed second team in Hawkes Bay, first in Hastings so they won the right to travel to Wellington to defend our National title.
Kelli Frewin, Holly Moroney, Zavier Jones and Sam Hill were placed 9th in Hawkes Bay which was also a stunning effort.
A huge “thank you” to Mrs Jodie Martin for transporting the girls over to the event and cheering them on during the competition. Thanks also to Mrs Natalie Pitcher for supporting the girls and capturing some great photos.
