Iona College Intermediate Scholarship
Valued at $500.00 per annum and tenable for 2 years.
The Walter Sturmey Charitable Trust Boarding Bursary
This provides $1,500.00 per annum for 2 years to a full time boarder entering Iona in Year 7 and whose family lives in the Wairoa district.
Year 9
The IOGA Scholarship
This will provide $1,000.00 per annum for 5 years. The holder of this Scholarship does not need to be the daughter of an Old Girl.
The Pam Torbett Charitable Trust Boarding Bursary
Tenable for 5 years – provides $3,000.00 per annum to a full time boarding student entering Iona in Year 9 and whose family lives in the Wairoa district.
All of the above scholarships will be awarded as a result of examinations held at Iona on Scholarship Day. An all-round evaluation of the candidate by the candidate’s Primary School Principal could also be taken into account.
Music Scholarship (Years 9 – 11)
This award will be $500.00 per annum to support music tuition for the Scholarship holder. It will be tenable for 3 years and will be dependent on continued study and progress in music. An application for the Scholarship period to be extended may be made during the last year of tenure.
Selection for this Scholarship will be based on:
(a) Proven music ability determined by a practical examination to be held at the College.
(b) A letter of recommendation from the candidate’s present music tutor.
(c) Results from the general examinations to be held at the College on Scholarship day.
Sports Scholarships
Up to six sports scholarships may be awarded annually. Each scholarship provides $1,000.00 to assist the scholar meet the costs associated with the sport for which the scholarship has been awarded. Scholarships may be awarded for Tennis, Swimming, Athletics, Hockey, Netball and Cricket.
Applicants should submit an application form (available from the school office) and a curriculum vitae with references to the Principal no later than 1st March in the year the student is in Year 9.
Other Levels
Mary Brownlie Music Scholarship
Awarded to a student who has shown ability and interest in using her talent for the benefit of School. The award is $300 annually.
Principal’s Scholarship
This award is offered to the Year 12 student who gains the highest overall academic aggregate and who is returning to Iona for a Year 13 year. It is valued at $1,000.00.
The Margaret Woodhouse Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a current or former student of Iona College of proven or potential musical excellence to enable her to study music at a New Zealand University or enrol at the Royal College of Music, London. The monetary value of the scholrship is in the vicinity of $10,000 per year.
