Iona Awarded Junior Pent

Iona College hosted the 2025 Junior Pentangular Sports Exchange, with Year 9 and 10 students competing across Football, Hockey and Netball.

Teams from Iona, Nga Tawa, Samuel Marsden, St Matthew’s and Woodford House competed against each other, with two days of entertaining and enjoyable sport played under (mostly) blue skies. The skill level on show, the sportsmanship displayed, and the enjoyment from all competitors involved made for an outstanding couple of days!

Iona teams were highly competitive across all three codes;

Iona Hockey went unbeaten through their four matches, converting 14 goals of their own and only conceding 1 against them. This team came together from a number of different teams in their regular competitions, and it was awesome to see this talented bunch working together so well and playing an outstanding level of hockey. These results meant our girls were crowned hockey champions.

Iona Football won three of their four matches, scoring an impressive 12 goals, and conceding just 5 against. Again, there were a number of new combinations used and the teamwork as well as individual brilliance made for entertaining viewing! These results placed our girls 2nd overall for football.

Iona Netball put together some superb play across the two days, having three strong wins and one very close loss to eventual winners, Marsden. The girls amassed a total of 128 goals scored and only 83 goals conceded. Three wins resulting in a 2nd placing for our netballers.

With all results calculated and combined across the exchange, Iona College were awarded the overall trophy. An impressive outing for our girls, with all codes contributing to an outstanding result!

A huge thank you must go out to all of our incredible coaches and staff involved with our teams, as well as both the kitchen staff and grounds teams, who dedicated hours of work to hosting this exchange. Likewise, to the large number of officials who stepped up to help us deliver the tournament, an enormous thanks from us in helping to make the exchange possible! Bring on Junior Pent 2026!
